Visit of David Geer, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, to the University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle”

The EU Ambassador, David Geer, visited the University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle” in Ohrid today. Professor Dr. Ustijana Rechkoska-Shikoska, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, along with representatives from the Rectorate, Senate, and Administration of the University, hosted a high-level delegation led by the Ambassador of the European Union in the country, Mr. David Geer, along with members of his team. They were in collaboration with Mr. Mark Barrett, the team leader of GIZ – German Society for International Cooperation, and Mr. Zoran Martinovski, President of the consulting company “PrimePoint Partners”, Marijana Milevska PREDA Plus Foundation.

The delegation visited the University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle” – Ohrid and the premises of the Ohrid Blue Economy Accelerator within the University. During the meeting, they discussed the challenges and opportunities for sustainable economic development in the country and the region, involving businesses and young people who would contribute with their ideas through the establishment of startups for local economic development. Particular emphasis was given to the potential utilization of students from all study cycles at the university, along with mentors from the university and IT companies, in creating modern ICT solutions that would lead to overall economic progress. The focus was on creative solutions that would aid in the sustainable development of tourism in Ohrid, the protection of the waters of Lake Ohrid and other lakes and rivers in the country and the region, as well as sustainable solutions in agriculture.
